Rehabilitation of Schools in São Tomé and Príncipe
GWIC was actively engaged in a project for the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEES) aimed at overcoming the barriers that prevent girls from staying in school. These barriers include long distances to schools, poor infrastructure, safety concerns, and inadequate sanitary conditions. Many schools lack sufficient sanitary facilities and do not provide adequate support for menstrual health and hygiene, which is essential for consistent school attendance. This World Bank-funded project seeks to significantly improve these conditions, thereby enhancing educational access and retention for girls.
